Community Rest: Supportive Touch for People Affected by the Fires
The recent fires have brought displacement, loss, uncertainty and an enormous amount of stress to people throughout our community.
For some, the immediate crisis has meant leaving home, losing belongings or living with the uncertainty of what comes next. Even after the most urgent decisions are made, the body may still feel like it is bracing for what might happen next.
We created Community Rest to offer a quiet place to come down from some of that stress.
What is Community Rest?
Community Rest is a guided group experience for people directly affected by the recent fires.
Guests will settle into comfortable floor stations with mats, blankets and bolsters for a calming sound bath. As the room moves through periods of sound and rest, our massage therapists will quietly move through the space offering intermittent supportive touch.
Throughout the session, guests may receive:
Head, neck and shoulder massage
Hand and foot massage
Gentle compression work
Warm foot wraps and other comforting supports
This is not a traditional massage appointment. It is a slow, shared experience combining sound, rest and supportive touch, with no need to talk, explain or accomplish anything.
What to expect
The experience will take place fully clothed in a calm group setting.
You will be invited to settle into comfortable resting positions while the sound bath is guided throughout the room. You may adjust, sit up or remain in one position at any time.
Massage therapists will move between guests and offer short periods of supportive touch during the sound bath. Massage will not be continuous, and every form of touch is optional.
There will also be time to simply listen, rest and be still.
Who is this for?
Community Rest is intended for people who have been directly affected by the recent fires, including those experiencing displacement, evacuation, loss or significant disruption.
You do not need to prove that your experience was difficult enough to deserve care.
Space will be limited so please reserve your spot.
What to wear
Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to sit and lie down easily.
Loose pants, leggings, sweatpants, T-shirts and sweatshirts are all appropriate. Guests will remain fully clothed throughout the experience.
Please don’t worry if you don’t have those things. Come in whatever clothing you have.
Accessibility and comfort
Floor stations will be used during this event. Please contact us before booking if getting down to or up from the floor may be difficult for you. We will do our best to discuss whether the experience can be comfortably adapted.
You may also let us know about injuries, sensitivities, mobility needs or areas where you do not want to receive touch.
Cost and availability
Community Rest sessions will be offered at no cost.
Reservations are required and space is limited.
Please book your spot online.
A place to pause
A sound bath or massage cannot undo what someone has lost or make an uncertain situation feel simple.
What they can offer is a little time for quiet, warmth, care and rest.
Community Rest was created to give people affected by the fires a place to pause, receive supportive touch if they choose, listen, and let their bodies rest for a while.
